Hay + Stacking Optimization
Montana Bale Wrapping | Practical Considerations
- Although the safety window is wide, baleage is best made at 50% moisture. This could mean 0-12 hours of cure time depending on the weather, type and status of the crop. We have a high moisture tester and can help you get started.
- In making baleage we are excluding oxygen from the bale. Bale more slowly to make dense bales and avoid plugging.
- Make smaller bales! Due to the high moisture content and increased density, baleage is very heavy,
- Timing is critical. Bales should be wrapped within 24 hours of production. The wrapping process is fast and we will need the bales ready in the stack yard. Make arrangements for wrapping in advance of bailing.
- Bales need to be wrapped near the location of feeding. Once wrapped they are not transportable in a group. When the tube is opened, at least one bale should be fed daily or the tube should be re-sealed.
